On Wednesday 13th December, the PiXL Edge Award was launched with Year 7 students.

The PiXL Edge Award is a nationally recognised award which allows students to develop vital skills for the world of employment. These skills are known as the LORIC skills: Leadership, Organisation, Resilience, Organisation, and Leadership. The rationale behind this award is that it will give students an ‘edge’ when it comes to competitive job applications and interviews.

The award has three levels: Apprentice, Graduate and Masters, and students are required to complete a range of activities to achieve each level. Activities can be completed both in and out of school, and are many and wide ranging. Some of the activities include: being a tour guide on Open Evening; being a captain/leader of a sport team; achieving over 95% attendance at school; designing and leading a teaching activity in a lesson; taking part in a sponsored walk; and creating information posters to promote whole school events. There are hundreds more to choose from – some of which students may never have even thought of! Students are free to choose the activities they would like to complete.

Students can work towards completing the activities at their own pace, and should log their progress on their online profile. All Year 7 students have now been given their log in details for their profile, an in-school activities guide, and a user guide for the PiXL Edge website. Ideally, students will work towards the Apprentice level award in Years 7 and 8, the Graduate level in Years 9 and 10, and the Masters level in Years 11-13. However, students can take as long as they need to complete each level of the award. There are additional exciting opportunities for students who complete the Apprentice level before the end of Year 8: they can become a PiXL Ambassador, promoting the award to the new Year 7s; or they could undertake the Pioneer level of the award, which is an extra level students can work towards before they start the Graduate level.

Students can access the online profile from this website: https://theedge.pixl.org.uk/

We look forward to seeing as many successes as possible with this award, ensuring that our students really have the ‘Edge’ and aspire to be the best that they can be.

We are delighted to share our Key Stage 5 Summer 2017 Performance Data, which compares our KS5 results from the Summer with national performance at KS5. Our data indicates that we are above and significantly about the national average in a number of different categories. Some of our highlights include:

• Our performance in Applied General subjects, which is significantly above average for all students;
• Our performance of female students, which is above the national average.

Taking into account the local and regional context that we operate in - along with the A Level reforms that affected subjects nationally - we are extremely pleased that the performance of our Year 13 students has bucked national trends and, alongside our five-year improving trend of attainment at A Level, we are a consistently high-quality provider of post-16 education.
