Work Experience

Year 12 Work Experience

At North Chadderton Sixth Form, we offer a unique provision of work experience to enable students to gain an insight into the working world, whilst developing skills that will prepare them for their future careers. Unlike many providers, we provide two opportunities for students to engage in work experience placements throughout Year 12, along with a wealth of opportunities that students can engage in independently to further develop their employability skills.

The first opportunity takes place in January – our ‘Work Experience Week’ – where students get to choose a placement in an industry that they are interested in. The second opportunity takes the form of an internship in a large, successful organisation that operates in the region. Previous destinations have included the NHS, Telefonica, Oldham Council and many more. This offer is part of our unique Futures Week provision – a week at the end of Year 12 where students develop the skills and knowledge to make informed choices about their post-18 pathways.

JANUARY 2018: WORK EXPERIENCE WEEK
In January 2018, all of our Year 12 students participated in work experience placements of their choice. We were delighted to receive so much positive feedback from providers regarding our students’ professionalism and engagement in their placements.

Please see below for a selection of testimonies from the work experience placement providers:

SadiaAmjad Malik Solicitors – Sadia:
Sadia completed her work experience week with us with superb professionalism. I wish her great success.

Imtiyaz

First Choice Homes – Imtiyaz:
Imtiyaz has been eager to jump into any task given to him from the team. He has:
· Attended an interview training course that our customers attended.
· Shadowed employment advisor appointments.
· Created a handout document with available jobs on for our employment event.
· Been involved in a panel interviewing students to do a placement at FCHO.
Feedback was that Imtiyaz had a very mature perspective on completing this task and was able to identify individual support needs, strengths and areas for improvement of applicants.
Imtiyaz has been polite and friendly for the time he has been with us, and the team wish him luck in his future.

Omar

First Choice Homes – Omar:

Omar has done a fantastic job whilst here. He’s completed introductory courses in SQL, Power BI and has even designed an exit survey aimed at tenants who leave their tenancy.

We’ve gone through performance packs and customer insight packs, and he showed a real interest and understanding in what the data was telling him.

It’s been great having him on the team and I’m sure he’ll do well in whatever he does.

First Choice Homes – Ben:

Ben has been excellent. The whole team has commented on how well Ben has done with us. He has been very confident and got involved with conversation and office banter, done exactly what is asked of him and I know he is going to have a very bright future ahead of him.

Tommy  Callum

The Gym Ltd – Tommy and Callum:

The students were excellent! Hard working and got involved in everything asked of them.
