INDEPENDENT LEARNING TASKS

KEY STAGE 3
Year 7 and 8 Independent Learning Tasks

Each term, teachers set students a grid of tasks to be completed. Each grid gives students choices of which tasks to do and how much students wish to challenge themselves. Students can choose to attempt either the ‘core, ‘extension’ or ‘super challenge’ version of the task.
These tasks might be done at home, or using the school's facilities outside of normal lesson times. The grids of tasks are optional, so careful thought should be given to which tasks will help students in their learning in lessons and in becoming more independent, both within and outside of the classroom.
There are also a range of compulsory home learning tasks in the core subjects that allow students to self-manage their learning and revision at home. At some points in the year, additional home learning activities may be set by classroom teachers via the school’s Firefly VLE.
You can view PDF versions of the task booklets below. These tasks are also available to students on the school VLE and via the My Ed parent app (under Resources).

KEY STAGE 4 AND KEY STAGE 5
Students in Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 should expect to receive home learning tasks from each of their subjects once every week. As students in these Key Stages are preparing for examinations, it is vital that they acquire effective independent learning skills through the self-managing of their own home learning.
All home learning tasks will take one of the following forms:
• Independent Learning
• Extending Learning
• Consolidating Learning
Each piece of home learning should be completed to the best of the student’s ability and should be submitted by the deadlines set by class teachers. All home learning tasks for Key
